Debbie Ernsberger Promoted to PYA Equity Principal

Debbie Ernsberger has been promoted to equity Principal at Pershing Yoakley & Associates (PYA).

Debbie Ernsberger has been promoted to equity Principal at PYA, Firm owners announced July 1.  Ernsberger first joined PYA in 1996, and has served in various capacities within PYA’s Tax, Non-Profit Tax, and Consulting service lines.

During her tenure at PYA, Ernsberger has conducted comprehensive analyses of issues related to tax-exempt organizations, including private inurement, private benefit, and unrelated business income.  She currently focuses much of her efforts on fair market value compensation (both for physicians and for executives) and business valuation services as well as mergers and acquisitions, while continuing to support hospitals in tax-reporting matters.  She also provides expertise with regard to hospital/physician relationships, joint venture arrangements, reorganizations, affiliations, and due-diligence matters. Ernsberger has represented clients before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), including the filing of applications for recognition of exempt status and coordination of the approval process as well as the Coordinated Examination Procedure.

Ernsberger, who earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and her Master of Accountancy from the University of Tennessee, is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).   “I am honored to be part of such a stellar team, and I look forward to further contributing to the success of PYA,” she said.

Ernsberger has been involved in several professional organizations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accounts (TSCPA), Go Red for Women, and the Delta Delta Delta Knoxville Alumni Chapter.
