PYA Co-Presents with Former Counselor to the Attorney General at Texas Health Law Conference

Healthcare attorneys across the state of Texas will convene in Austin this fall at the annual Texas Health Law Conference coordinated by the Health Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.  National and regional health law experts will guide attendees through two days of continuing legal education, covering topics such as health policy, healthcare transactions, and healthcare enforcement actions, among others.

PYA is among the featured presenters.  Shannon Sumner, a managing principal of PYA’s Compliance Advisory Services and Firm Compliance Officer, will co-present with Brian Boynton, former counselor to the Attorney General of the United States and current partner at WilmerHale.  They will discuss, “The Role of Compliance in Government Enforcement,” including:

  • Recent government enforcement activity, including the evolution of settlement agreements (Corporate Integrity Agreements [CIA], Deferred-Prosecution Agreements [DPA]), which provide a perspective on Office of Inspector General and Department of Justice priorities for healthcare compliance program structure and content.
  • The importance of having an effective compliance program in place to mitigate the impacts that can result in a mandated CIA or DPA.
  • Examples of leading practice compliance programs for use in providing counsel and advice to health system stakeholders.

The event is October 7-9, 2018, in Austin, Texas.  Learn more and register.
