Healthcare Reform Initiatives Affecting Physician Compensation

The many ways in which healthcare reform affects the healthcare industry are still playing out.  Undoubtedly, a question for physicians and the hospitals that employ many of them is “how will physician compensation be affected?”

PYA Principal Carol Carden spoke at the 2013 AICPA Healthcare Industry Conference, where she addressed this question with her presentation, “Current Reform Initiatives and Their Impact on Physician Compensation.”   She discussed the impact on physician compensation as a result of the movement toward bundled payments, accountable care organizations, increased emphasis on outcomes data and the value-based payment modifier.

The presentation also covered the migration of industry survey benchmark data, how to effectively incorporate quality and outcomes incentives into compensation, and the impact of the recent Office of Inspector General opinion regarding clinical co-management agreement structures.
