For the fifth time, PYA has earned the designation of “Top Workplace” by Knox News. PYA is the highest-ranked accounting and professional services firm in the midsize category.
The Knox News Top Workplaces designations recognize companies in East Tennessee that create an outstanding workplace culture for employees. The award is based solely on employee feedback gathered through an anonymous, voluntary third-party survey that measures several aspects of the workplace culture, including alignment, execution, and connection.
PYA has been named an honoree every year the company has participated in the program, reflecting employees’ positive perceptions of the firm’s relationship-focused culture.

PYA has been named one of America’s Most Recommended Tax and Accounting Firms in the 2024 USA TODAY rankings based on surveys by Statista, an independent market research institute.
USA TODAY ranks firms in two categories: the 100 Most Recommended Tax Firms and the 100 Most Recommended Accounting Firms, and PYA is included in both lists. PYA is one of only four tax firms and one of five accounting firms listed in Tennessee and is the only ranked firm headquartered in Knoxville.

The rankings are based on the number of recommendations gathered from professionals and clients across the country. To compile the data, Statista “conducted broad surveys of tax and accounting professionals and their clients. Peers were asked for up to 10 tax or accounting firms they would recommend if their company couldn’t take on a client. Clients were asked for up to 10 tax or accounting firms based on their professional experience over the past three years,” according to the USA TODAY announcement.

The firm, which serves clients in all 50 states, is named the leader in consulting among U.S. firms under $100 million, up from the No. 2 spot in 2023. Also, PYA ranks among the Top 100 accounting firms across the nation, the eighth year for this designation, and PYA is recognized as one of the Top 10 largest firms in the Southeast and the second largest headquartered in Tennessee.
The annual rankings are based on total revenues, percentage of revenue increase, number of employees, and other metrics collected through a survey process of accounting firms.

According to the Accounting Today report, the Top 100 firms showed substantial revenue growth across the board in 2023, but they face a continuing struggle to attract and retain top talent due to the dwindling pipeline of new graduates. The service line with the highest growth rate in 2023 is client advisory services, in which firms are seeing the promise of more growth and the ability to better serve clients.
