Three PYA Executives Present at 2024 National Compliance Institute

Three PYA executives, Consulting Principal Angie Caldwell, Senior Manager Traci Waugh, and Principal and Corporate Counsel Karin Anderson, will share thought leadership at the Health Care Compliance Association’s (HCCA) 28th Annual Compliance Institute. The institute takes place April 14-17, 2024, in Nashville.

On Monday, April 15, Waugh and Anderson will present, “EMTALA: Achieving Compliance in a Changing Legal Landscape.” They will be joined by Michelle Pendergrass, Chief Compliance Officer with Midland Health. In the session, the leaders will present an overview of the requirements and enforcement of EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act) and how it impacts provider liability among changing and conflicting state abortion laws. They also will share a helpful compliance checklist with attendees.

On Tuesday, April 16, Caldwell, along with Jana Kolarik, Partner with Foley & Lardner LLP, will present, “Stark Law & Valuation: Fixing Problematic Structures.” Through case study analysis, Caldwell and Kolarik will provide valuation dos and don’ts to establish fair market value and considerations regarding subsidy arrangements. They also will cover Stark Law issues related to wRVU models, including advanced practice provider work and tiered models.

The HCCA provides educational opportunities and resources to support the healthcare compliance profession. For more than 25 years, its Compliance Institute has gathered professionals from across the country to share best practices and emerging trends. Learn more about the institute and register.
