“Accounting Profession Gathers ‘STEAM’: Proposed Legislation Bolsters STEM Curriculum”

PYA Director of Client Accounting and Advisory Services Patrick Lewis and Director of Talent Acquisition Catie Scott recently authored an article published in the September/October 2021 edition of the Tennessee CPA Journal, a publication of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA). The article, “Accounting Profession Gathers ‘STEAM’: Proposed Legislation Bolsters STEM Curriculum” addresses the impact new legislation could have on the accounting field. The Accounting STEM Pursuit Act of 2021 proposes that accounting be added to the STEM curriculum (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

With the continued decline in the number of CPAs and CPA candidates each year, they note that the legislation’s impact could be significant. It could help promote accounting as a viable career opportunity and bolster firms’ recruiting efforts.
