Opioid Fraud: The Important Role CPAs Can Play in Preventing It

Not a day goes by that the opioid crisis doesn’t make a news headline somewhere in America.  A conference on forensic and valuation services seems an unlikely place to discuss the issue, yet the pervasiveness of the problem necessitates that everyone recognizes the role he or she can play in abating the epidemic.

PYA Senior Manager Valerie Rock, who is certified in healthcare compliance and professional coding, and former FBI agent and licensed CPA Randal Wolverton will lead a timely discussion on “Opioid Fraud” at the 2018 AICPA Forensic and Valuation Services Conference.  The session will focus on the internal controls that stakeholders—auditors, regulators, management, and boards of directors—for both public and private companies should consider to mitigate issues related to the opioid crisis.

The presenters will provide:

  • An overview of the crisis.
  • A description of risk areas that require internal controls.
  • Examples of monitoring for opioid crisis fraud and abuse cases.

The conference takes place Nov. 5-7, 2018, in Atlanta, GA.  Learn more and register here.

If you would like more information about identifying risk and implementing internal controls, or would like assistance in any matter involving compliance, valuation, or strategy and integration, contact one of our PYA executives below at (800) 270-9629.
