“Enforcement, Compliance Officer, and General Counsel”

PYA Chief Compliance Officer and Office Managing Principal Shannon Sumner presented at the Health Care Compliance Association’s (HCCA) virtual Healthcare Enforcement Compliance Conference, an event that features representatives from the Civil Division of the Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Counsel to the Inspector General, as well as leaders in the healthcare enforcement compliance industry.

It’s imperative providers stay up-to-date about regulatory changes, expectations, and priorities when it comes to regulatory compliance. In the session “Enforcement, Compliance Officer, and General Counsel,” Shannon was joined by Laura Ellis, Senior Counsel, Office of Inspector General, Department of Health & Human Services, and John Kelly, Partner, Barnes & Thornburg LLP. They gave insights on the following topics:

  • Compliance and the role of general counsel management and the compliance officer
  • OIG’s perspective on the general counsel and compliance officers
  • Management general counsel and compliance officers—what works and what doesn’t work for effective compliance

This conference took place November 7-9, 2022. View the slides.
