PYA Senior Manager Kathy Reep presented at the Kansas Hospital Association Critical Issues Summit for Hospital Boards, an event that provides educational programming focused on critical topics of importance to hospital leadership and trustees and promotes the importance of good governance practices. Kathy’s presentation, “Hospital Finance 101,” helped attendees understand the basics of Medicare reimbursement by:
- Providing an overview of the Medicare payment methodology, including the various prospective payment systems, cost-based reimbursement, and fee schedule payments.
- Examining the impact of recent legislative and regulatory changes on Medicare payments.
- Discussing the pay-for-performance initiatives that reimburse providers based on the quality of care provided rather than solely on the volume of services.
- Exploring the future of the Medicare Trust Fund and concerns about its solvency.
The Summit was held March 3-4, 2022, in Wichita, Kansas.
