“Healthcare in a Rural Environment: Ensuring Sustainable Care Delivery”

PYA Principal Mike Nichols presented at the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Annual Conference. The conference was themed “Find Your True North,” engaging attendees to rebuild, reconnect, and reignite, while examining the latest industry trends and best practices. Mike presented along with Mayo Clinic Health System Minnesota Interim Chief Financial Officer Praveen Mekala and Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis Mark Christopherson.

Their presentation, “Healthcare in a Rural Environment: Ensuring Sustainable Care Delivery,” offered practical steps rural-based providers can take to solidify their financial performance and balance sheet, not only supporting day-to-day activities, but funding future investments. Attendees were able to:

  • Describe an inventory of levers that can be deployed to improve ongoing financial performance and balance sheet health.
  • Introduce new ways of thinking about performance improvement and enhancement.
  • Use effective knowledge of Medicare cost reports and reimbursement levels available to improve financial performance.

The conference took place November 8-10, 2021, in Minneapolis. View the presentation slides here.
