PYA has released an updated white paper, “Providing and Billing Medicare for Chronic Care Management and Related Services.” PYA first published its chronic care management (CCM) white paper in 2015, when Medicare began reimbursing physicians for these services. As the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has updated billing rules and expanded reimbursement, PYA has updated this resource on which numerous providers have relied in developing their CCM programs.
For 2022, CMS has added more billing codes for care management services. Also, CMS adjusted the relative value units assigned to CCM and related services, resulting in a significant increase in Medicare reimbursement for these services. As a result, provider interest in these services is expected to grow.
“PYA’s updated white paper condenses the latest regulations and related agency guidance into an easily consumed summary,” said PYA Principal and Director of the Center for Rural Health Advancement Martie Ross. “Our Q&A format and national payment rate charts make it easy for providers to understand the information needed to participate in risk-based contracting.”
