“Innovative Revenue Streams for Academic Medical Centers – Reaching Beyond On-Site Patient Care”

An article co-authored by PYA President and CEO Marty Brown; Senior Manager Marcy Cent; and Lawrence Vernaglia, a partner at Foley & Lardner, LLC, has been published by the American Health Law Association (AHLA). “Innovative Revenue Streams for Academic Medical Centers–Reaching Beyond On-Site Patient Care” examines some of the challenges academic medical centers (AMCs) face as reductions in reimbursement add further burdens to the already high cost of providing education, research, and comprehensive patient care. The authors conducted interviews with clinical and administrative leaders at top AMCs in various stages of pursuing innovative revenue opportunities to help mitigate financial risk and further their program goals. The article highlights three of these opportunities.

Article Excerpt

The three approaches of investing in ancillary services, branding, and consulting services have potential to drive significant revenue to the organization, while enhancing the mission and strategic vision of the AMC.
