The annual Academic Medical Centers and Teaching Hospitals Institute program through the American Health Law Association was held virtually this year. The event looked at the role of AMCs during a pandemic, and planning for the future. PYA President Marty Brown spoke along with Lawrence W. Vernaglia, a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP. Their presentation, “New, Innovative, Revenue-Generating Ideas for AMCs…No, Really!” gave an overview of innovative and non-traditional business development opportunities, including mini summaries on real-life strategies used by AMCs to diversify revenue streams.
The session covered:
- How to generate ideas for AMCs.
- Ways to help legal departments migrate from “cost centers” to “revenue centers.”
- Regulatory and compliance considerations associated with such ideas.
