As a long-time supporter of the American Health Law Association (AHLA), PYA is pleased to sponsor and present during the 2024 AHLA Annual Meeting, June 24-26, in Washington, D.C. During the meeting, AHLA hosted leading experts in health law and the healthcare industry, who offered updates, challenges, and solutions for legal, regulatory, operational, and strategic issues facing the industry.
On June 24, Annapoorani Bhat, PYA Consulting Principal and Charlotte Managing Principal, and Michael Barry, Partner, Arnall Golden Gregory, presented, “Preparing and Advising Not-for-Profit Health Systems in A Change of Control Transaction to Support Regulatory Approval Processes.” The presentation addressed select state-level approval processes for healthcare transactions, structured processes and education for stakeholders, and the fiduciary duties of the leadership team. Attendees learned from case studies of past transactions that went through regulatory approval processes.
On June 25 and 26, Tynan Kugler, PYA Principal, presented, “Through the Looking Glass: Bringing Alternative Physician Arrangements and Other Trending Life Sciences Topics into Focus.” She co-presented with Mara Smith-Kouba, Counsel, Commercialization and Development, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Jonathan Porter, Partner, Husch Blackwell LLP. The session addressed key regulatory and compliance considerations related to various physician arrangements and other key trends affecting life sciences companies and those who engage with them. Kugler and Smith-Kouba speak in-depth about physician arrangements and their inherent risks during a podcast presented by Husch Blackwell and hosted by Porter. In the podcast, “False Claims Act: Fallout from FCA Verdict and Risks with Physician Arrangements,” which launched July 29, they discuss the Penelow case, the use of speaker network programs, and the “one-purpose” theory of the Anti-Kickback Statute. They also discuss impacts to compliance programs and risk management related to physician financial arrangements for life sciences organizations.
PYA also is a proud sponsor of the 2024 meeting, and attendees are invited to visit the PYA booth, where experts will be on hand to discuss healthcare challenges and solutions.
