In the October 2026 issue of Compliance Today, PYA Principals Zach Doolin, Angie Caldwell, and Carol Carden, examine how artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance healthcare compensation valuation while reinforcing the continued importance of expert judgment. In their article, The Future of Healthcare Compensation Valuation: AI-Enabled, Expert-Led, they explain why they believe the most defensible approach to determining fair market value (FMV) compensation is “AI-enabled, expert-led.”
Well-supported FMV determinations are an important component of compliant provider compensation arrangements and should be based on transparent, well-documented analyses.
AI can improve efficiency by organizing data, summarizing information, and identifying trends, but it cannot independently provide an opinion of value. The authors recommend using AI as a decision-support tool within an expert-led process, with independent valuation professionals applying the judgment necessary to deliver defensible FMV opinions.
Compliance Today is published by the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), which provides education, certification, resources, and professional connections for the healthcare compliance community.
