PYA Thought Leader Quoted in HCCA Article on Medicare Overpayment Compliance

PYA Senior Consulting Manager Traci Waugh is quoted in a recently published Report on Medicare Compliance, covering Medicare’s 60-day overpayment refund rule. Monitoring, identifying, and investigating overpayments can be a strenuous and time-consuming process. The article, “Credible Information Is Heart of 60-Day Rule; OIG: Self-Disclosure Pauses the Clock,” defines “credible information,” and explains how healthcare systems can minimize exposure under the 60-day rule by following self-disclosure protocol and employing proactive compliance activities.

Article Excerpt:

Sometimes hospitals are focused on the big picture and let small-dollar claims slide by even when they shouldn’t, Waugh said. The business may be in such a hurry to bring the money in that “they don’t have time to sit back and say, ‘I have been getting the same denial over and over.’”
