Communication Essential to Improving Quality & VBP Results

Hospitals with the highest ratings in nurse and physician communication on average have fewer patient safety events, according to a new research study by HealthGrades. The recently released study analyzed patient safety data for hospitals nationwide between 2008 and 2010 and uncovered important linkages between communication and organizational priorities in quality, patient safety, and patient experience.

Among the most significant revelations in the report is the finding that hospitals ranked in the bottom 10 percent on the “nursing communication” section of the H-CAHPS survey reported 27 percent more overall patient safety events than those institutions in the top 10 percent.
