2014 AHLA Annual Meeting: Big Agenda Meets Big Apple

The culmination of the American Health Lawyers Association’s educational year, the 2014 Annual Meeting and In-House Counsel Program takes place June 29-July 2, 2014, at the New York Hilton Midtown.

PYA Consulting Principal Jim Lloyd will participate in a two-person panel discussion, “The Value of Valuator and Lawyer Working Together: 1 + 1 = FMV.”   While facing competing pressures from the C-Suite and providers, in-house and outside counsel must protect their clients from the risks of draconian penalties for violating any number of healthcare laws and regulations.  Likewise, counsel must effectively manage the valuation engagement—often as the primary liaison between appraiser and client—to protect valuable relationships and ensure the transaction is on track and compliant.

This session will give legal counsel practical engagement management tips and tools from business appraisers’ perspectives, including examples of best and worst practices in handling engagement details:

  • Engagement: explaining the deal structure, scope-setting, understanding fee structures, protecting the attorney/client privilege, handling engagement letter limitations, and addressing change orders.
  • Project management: facilitating information-gathering, communicating changes in the deal, educating on regulatory matters, reviewing the work product, and dealing with situations when things go awry.

This year’s AHLA Annual Meeting agenda promises to offer other excellent educational and networking opportunities, including a Monday night off-site reception on historic Ellis Island, with the Statue of Liberty as the backdrop.

PYA is pleased to sponsor the Board of Directors/Past Presidents & Fellows Dinner and Wi-Fi access. Be sure to look for us on the exhibit hall floor.

If you’d like more information about healthcare transactions and valuations, or would like to request a speaker on this topic for your organization or event, contact Jim Lloyd at PYA, (800) 270-9629.
